PhD Workshop (27 November 2024, Egmond aan Zee)
The goal of the PhD workshop is to facilitate contact and discussion among PhD students in behavioural biology. There are about 20 PhD students and 2 senior researchers, all of whom will be present throughout the day. The workshop is organized by Dr. Christian Tudorache and Dr. Felipe Cunha.
This year’s workshop will be led by Gert van Maanen, the editor-in-chief of Bionieuws.
The two invited speakers, Prof. Dr. Andy Radford and Prof. Dr. Rose Thorogood, will speak about their experiences with science popularisation and communication.
The workshop consists of two main parts:
1) Gert van Maanen will give a workshop on how to write a press release and pitch your work to a general audience.
2) After the lunch break, Prof. Dr. Andy Radford and Prof. Dr. Rose Thorogood will speak about their experiences with science popularisation and communication. Then we have a general discussion about how “society” perceives our research.
