The Netherlands
Martijn Hammers: Dierinclusieve Leefomgeving
Research fields: Urban Animal Behaviour | Human–Wildlife Interactions | Wild Animal Welfare
We study wild animal behaviour, human–wildlife interactions and animal welfare in human-shaped environments. Our applied research informs the design and management of wildlife-friendly spaces and supports coexistence between people and wildlife.
Jean-Christophe Billeter: Billeter Lab
Research fields: Social Behaviour | Neurogenetics | Drosophila melanogaster
We are interested in understanding the mechanisms through which genetic and environmental factors influence social behaviour. To this end, we study social behaviours in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster, whose organization shows a strong interplay between genetics and both biotic and abiotic environmental factors.
Sanne Moorman: Moorman Lab
Research fields: Neuroethology of Auditory-Vocal Learning | Songbird Neuroscience | Auditory Memory
We study the neuronal representations of long-term auditory birdsong memory. We use a combination of behavioral analyses and in vivo imaging of neural activity using head-mounted, miniature microscopes.
Giulia Cimarelli: Companion Animal Behaviour
Research fields: Social Behaviour and Cognition | Human-Animal Interactions | Domestication
Dogs and cats have been living alongside humans for thousands of years, successfully occupying various ecological niches. At the Companion Animal Behaviour Lab we research the ecology, behaviour, and cognition of laboratory and pet cats, pet dogs living in the Netherlands, and free-ranging dogs living in Morocco.
